Tank level and water monitoring: selecting a complete system

1 min read

Tank monitoring depends on the vessel, material and installation as much as sensor range. Establish what you need to measure, how it will be displayed and whether alarms or pump control are required.

Describe the tank

Send tank height, shape, capacity, contents, mounting connection and the distance from the proposed sensor face to the highest and lowest material levels. Include photos showing baffles, inlets, ladders and other internal obstructions.

Compare sensing methods

Non-contact ultrasonic measurement needs a suitable echo path and allowance for its blind zone; foam, vapour, turbulence and condensation may affect suitability. Hydrostatic measurement depends on liquid density and compatible wetted materials. Other technologies may be required for difficult contents or process conditions.

Connect the equipment

Choose local indication, wired output or remote communications. Confirm sensor power, solar/battery arrangements, coverage, reporting intervals and gateway/cloud compatibility. If pump control is required, separately confirm controller outputs, motor switching and protective functions.

Request a complete quote

Send tank dimensions, contents, process temperature/pressure, mounting clearance, power, communications, alarm levels and required control behaviour. Hazardous locations and flammable contents require exact model and installation assessment before selection.
