Automation and VSD selection for pumps, fans and machines

Select drives and controls from the motor and application requirements. Motor power is only one input: supply, rated current, load, control signals and installation conditions also matter.

Gather the motor details

Provide a clear motor-nameplate photo showing voltage, connection, full-load current, power, frequency and speed. State the available supply voltage and phase, and whether the motor is already connected to a drive.

Describe the load

Identify a pump, fan, conveyor, lathe or other machine. Include starting duty, overload demand, speed range, reversing, braking and how often the equipment starts and stops. A pump/fan rating is not automatically suitable for a demanding constant-torque load.

Match controls and installation

List analogue inputs, digital I/O, communications, PLC or HMI requirements. Check enclosure, ventilation, ambient temperature, cable lengths, EMC measures and any braking or filtering accessories against the manufacturer's instructions.

Request the right configuration

Send the nameplate, supply details, load, enclosure conditions and control requirements. Final drive sizing and electrical installation must be confirmed for the exact motor and application. Browse VSDs or ask ProSense for help with a PLC/HMI and drive package.
