Remote monitoring: choosing sensors, gateways and cloud
A remote monitoring system needs a complete path from the measurement to the person acting on it. Plan sensors, communications, power, dashboards and alarms together.
Choose the sensor
Define the parameter, range, accuracy, probe arrangement and environment. Check ingress protection, cable routing, operating temperature and access for battery replacement.
Choose the communications path
LoRaWAN sensors normally communicate through a compatible gateway and network server. Cellular NB-IoT or LTE-M products require compatible carrier coverage and service. Wi-Fi products need suitable coverage and network access. Check the exact regional version, payload and platform integration before combining products.
Plan the dashboard and response
Specify logging and transmission intervals separately, alert recipients, history retention, reports and escalation procedures. Ask which gateway, SIM, data service and cloud subscription are included and which are additional. Compatibility with ProSight must be confirmed for the selected model.
Prepare your project brief
Send the number and location of measurement points, site layout, distances, available power, network access and alarm requirements. Start with a small site trial where coverage is uncertain.
