ACREL Partial Discharge Monitoring Sensor - UHF, TEV and AE is a partial discharge detection and monitoring device designed for medium and high voltage switchgear. It combines AE, TEV and UHF detection methods to monitor discharge activity and provide information such as discharge amplitude, frequency and related discharge patterns. The APD300 is available in wired APD300-L/APD300-WP and battery-powered wireless APD300-W versions, with magnetic installation for practical integration into switchgear.

The ACREL Partial Discharge Monitoring Sensor - UHF, TEV and AE is designed for partial discharge monitoring in medium and high voltage switchgear. Partial discharge can occur when insulation defects, impurities, gaps or other localised conditions create areas of increased electric field strength. Over time, continued discharge activity can contribute to insulation deterioration.

The ACREL Partial Discharge Monitoring Sensor - UHF, TEV and AE detects electromagnetic radiation and other signals associated with partial discharge and monitors parameters including discharge amplitude and frequency. The manufacturer specifies three detection methods - AE, TEV and UHF - allowing the device to monitor different characteristics of discharge activity within switchgear.

Two versions are available. The APD300-L and APD300-WP is a wired model powered by 12-36 VDC and communicates through RS485 using Modbus-RTU. The APD300-W is a battery-powered wireless model using LoRa communication, with a specified replaceable battery life of 3-4 years.

How it works

  • The device detects signals associated with partial discharge within or around switchgear.
  • AE, TEV and UHF monitoring provide different methods of detecting discharge activity.
  • The APD300 measures parameters including discharge amplitude and frequency.
  • The device can provide discharge-related data for monitoring and assessment.
  • The APD300-L communicates via RS485 Modbus-RTU, while the APD300-W transmits using LoRa wireless communication.

Why choose this product?

  • Three detection methods - combines AE, TEV and UHF monitoring in one device.
  • Wired or wireless options - the APD300-L is suited to installations requiring RS485 communication, while the APD300-W provides a battery-powered LoRa option.
  • Magnetic installation - the manufacturer specifies magnetic mounting for installation on switchgear.
  • Switchgear-focused design - developed specifically for partial discharge monitoring in medium and high voltage switchgear.
  • Multiple monitoring parameters - supports monitoring of discharge amplitude, frequency and other discharge-related information.

Benefits

The ACREL Partial Discharge Monitoring Sensor - UHF, TEV and AE can help electrical maintenance teams monitor insulation-related discharge activity as part of an equipment condition monitoring strategy. Detecting partial discharge activity can provide useful information about the condition of insulation and help identify potential issues before they develop into more serious equipment faults.

The wireless APD300-W can also be installed on the external door panel of the circuit breaker or cable compartment without requiring a high-voltage power outage, according to the manufacturer's product information.
