ACREL DC Insulation Monitor for Energy Storage and DC Distribution is designed to monitor insulation conditions in ungrounded DC systems and identify insulation faults between the DC circuit and earth. Acrel specifies the series for applications including EV charging equipment, solar PV systems, energy storage systems and DC distribution panels. It provides a practical way to continuously monitor DC insulation conditions and generate an alarm when a fault condition is detected.

The ACREL DC Insulation Monitor for Energy Storage and DC Distribution is designed for monitoring insulation conditions in ungrounded DC systems. Its purpose is to detect deterioration in insulation between the positive or negative DC conductors and earth, helping identify an earth fault before it develops into a more serious electrical issue.

The series is intended for DC applications where continuous insulation monitoring is required, including EV charging equipment, solar PV systems, energy storage systems, DC distribution panels, UPS systems and other DC power networks.

How it works

  • The monitor checks the insulation condition between the DC system conductors and earth.
  • When the measured insulation resistance falls below a configured warning or alarm value, the device can provide an insulation fault indication.
  • Depending on the model, the AIM-D series can also monitor DC system voltage and provide communication or relay outputs.
  • Selected models support RS485 communication using the Modbus-RTU protocol.

Why choose this product

  • Designed specifically for ungrounded DC systems.
  • Suitable for several modern DC power applications, including EV charging and energy storage.
  • Supports ongoing insulation condition monitoring rather than relying solely on periodic manual testing.
  • The AIM-D range includes different configurations for different DC system applications.

Benefits

  • Helps identify DC insulation faults at an early stage.
  • Provides monitoring of insulation condition while the DC system is operating.
  • Can provide alarm information for integration with associated control or monitoring equipment, depending on model.
  • Supports system monitoring requirements in EV charging, renewable energy and energy storage applications.
