ACREL Arc Probe - Passive Arc Light Sensor is a passive optical sensor designed to detect arc light within electrical protection systems. It detects visible and ultraviolet light associated with an arc and provides optical sensing for arc protection applications. According to Acrel, the ARB-S has a detection angle of at least 180° and a detection radius of at least 0.5 m. The probe also incorporates light filtering and supports real-time self-inspection of the probe and fibre-optic link.

The ACREL Arc Probe - Passive Arc Light Sensoris an optical arc detection sensor designed for use with electrical arc protection systems. It detects the light produced by an electrical arc rather than relying on an electrically powered sensing element at the detection point.

The sensor responds to both visible and ultraviolet light. Acrel specifies a detection angle of ≥180° and a detection radius of ≥0.5 m, providing broad optical coverage around the probe.

The ACREL Arc Probe - Passive Arc Light Sensor also incorporates a light filtering function to help with optical detection. Acrel specifies real-time self-inspection of both the probe and fibre-optic link, allowing the associated protection system to monitor the condition of the optical detection path.

How it works

  • The ARB-S detects light generated by an electrical arc using visible and ultraviolet light sensing.
  • The optical signal is carried through the arc optical fibre to the associated protection system.
  • The probe provides a detection angle of at least 180° and a detection radius of at least 0.5 m.
  • The system can perform real-time self-inspection of the probe and fibre-optic link.

Why choose this product?

  • Passive optical arc sensing without electrical components at the sensing point.
  • Broad 180° or greater detection angle.
  • Designed to detect both visible and ultraviolet arc light.
  • Light filtering is incorporated into the probe.
  • Flame-retardant, double-stranded arc optical fibre.
  • Acrel specifies no metal parts in the probe, avoiding electrical safety hazards at the sensing point.

Benefits

The optical design allows the probe to be positioned within electrical equipment where rapid detection of arc light is required. Its passive construction also keeps electrical components away from the optical detection point.

The real-time self-inspection capability provides additional monitoring of the probe and fibre-optic link, helping the protection system identify issues with the sensing path.
